Insoles
promoting extra cushioning are popular products these days.
They range from water insoles to all kinds of cushy materials to "protect" your
feet and put extra spring in your step. The simple truth is that
properly functioning feet offer plenty of impact protection, but if your
feet supinate (roll out) when you walk, you are likely to
feel a harder more jarring impact each time your heels strike the ground. For
runners, this impact is often magnified.
Check your shoes. If they primarily wear along the
middle to outside in the forefoot, you are likely to be a supinator. Heel
cushions can be helpful in reducing the impact but they don't improve the
mechanics of your gait. Other musculoskeletal problems originating from your
feet may remain.
It is easy to
cross the line with cushioning. Too much
cushion will destabilize your feet, making your feet and legs more tired and
make you more prone to ankle injury.
Be careful about what you put in your shoes. It is more important to
focus on correcting foot mechanics than cushioning your feet.
And if you decide to spend your money on yet another
cushioned product, what feels nice and cushy to your fingers typically
compresses to almost nothing under the weight of your body.
How Posture Control InsolesT
are different:
The purpose of Posture Control InsolesT is
to normalize your gait. Improved foot function will give you a sense of a
softer more stable gait. The pressure underneath your second metatarsal will be
dissipated, so you will feel a sense of cushioning even if there is no cushion
there.
