NEW ZEALAND RACING ANNUAL 2005 That inaugural edition is a very modest affair when compared with the just released slick 2005 publication. Now a beautifully processed book, it is printed on glossy paper, has a gorgeous photographic coverage and is splendidly laid out using the most modern printing techniques available. Dave Bradford (known as Brick to his old mates) was the pioneer publisher for the first three years and came back into harness with a very upmarket publication about eight years ago. All New Zealand's major carnivals have vivid editorial and photographic coverage and there are further in-depth features on the remarkable mare Horlicks (Three Legs-Malt, by Moss Trooper) , now aged 22 years, and the evergreen and highly respected trainer Colin Jillings, who retired in the 12 months under review. There is the usual Australian coverage on major events across the Tasman and in Asia where Kiwi breds feature so prominently in Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau. Bradford and his business partner, his wife Sonia, are a great publishing team and have done themselves and the New Zealand racing industry proud with their 2005 New Zealand Racing Annual. As we have commented for years in reviewing various Racing Annual numbers, it's just a pity that there has never been an index in any edition to date.
