Alf
Kneebone from New Zealands Waikato area is among the countrys
best known and highly respected thoroughbred racing journalists.

and equine he encountered in his long literary association with
the turf.
He
had a remarkable alliance with the Waikato Times , serving the Hamilton
daily newspaper from 1938 to 2001, apart from a break with military
service during World War II.
In
March 2001 he completed a remarkable 50-year term as a track reporter
, timing morning gallops from the Waikato training courses at Te
Rapa, Te Awamutu and Cambridge. In those duties Alf received the
utmost respect from all in the industry for his reliable and professional
approach.
There
are 160 pages in this soft covered title , with 152 devoted to the
numerous people and horses he meet in the business . Alf gives a
backgrounder to these individuals and embellishes the coverage with
his own recollections . This adds a rather nice human interest overtone
to the book.
