One hundred outstanding thoroughbreds to grace Australian and New Zealand racetracks are chronicled in Century Of Champions.

The 216 page soft covered book is the fifth title produced by Hawke’s Bay , New Zealand, sporting and racing journalist Mark Taylor.

Beginning with the wonderful Australian mare Wakeful the books spans the 20th century and carries chapters on champions right through to the current star Sunline. All told 67 Australian and 33 New Zealand topliners are included.

There are two pages allocated to each horse, the first carrying the photograph and the second the editorial and racing "factfile." The reports on the runners concerned are sharp, short and straight to the point, a real asset if the book is viewed as a reference work.

Longer reviews in a collection such as this one, can be cumbersome and time consuming when just a simple basic detail is being sought. So if you want a quick rundown on Desert Gold, Peter Pan, Prince Cortauld, Tobin Bronze, Veandercross and company this is a little gem for an easy scan.
