UNDERSTANDING
THE POWER OF THE X FACTOR
By
Marianna Haun
(Published by Russell Meerdink, Wisconsin, USA)
This
is a sequel to Marianna Haun's popular and revealing book 'The X
Factor'
dealing with the big heart affinity with champion gallopers
and how the phenomenon is transferred through female lines in the
thoroughbred.
Haun
revises the X Factor guidelines from the first book and then brings
in a new tack. She
reveals that there are physical clues
to genetic traits. The big heart factor can be measured by
heart scoring . In
addition certain anatomical parts can be revealing, too.
For
instance peculiar small
ears originating from Princequillo can identify that the horse in
question may have inherited Princequillo's big heart attributes.
Geneticists
invariably claim that the most power in a pedigree emanates from
the female tail line. Haun emphasises that when judging a sire gauge
him on his daughters. That's where the power lies.
The
original Haunt text had
a definite thoroughbred bias but in the sequel Haunt reveals that
both standardbreds and quarter horses relate to the large heart
syndrome.
Horse
folk may have a wider interest in this text
than the original one, for there is ample reference to the
physical conformation of current greats in the
breed.
